After previously discussing statistics on distribution, population, and agriculture, in this episode of Ngulik, we will discuss the Human Development Index (HDI) of Sidoarjo Regency in 2020. It is well known that, prior to the 1970s, development was seen as merely an economic phenomenon. The experience of the decade showed high levels of economic growth, but failed to improve the standard of living of most of the population. Therefore, the concept of human development emerged which aims to create an environment that allows people to enjoy a long, healthy, and productive life, as measured by an indicator called the Human Development Index (HDI).

The HDI was introduced by UNDP in 1990 and published regularly in the annual Human Development Report (HDR). In Indonesia, HDI is an important indicator to measure success in efforts to build the quality of human life. In addition, HDI is also used as an indicator of the government's development targets in discussing macro assumptions. And no less important, HDI as one of the determinants of the General Allocation Fund (DAU).

The HDI figure is formed by 3 (three) basic dimensions, namely:
Long and healthy life (a long and healthy life), which is reflected by the Life Expectancy (AHH)
  • Knowledge (knowledge), which is reflected by the indicators of Expected Length of School (HLS) and Average Length of Schooling (RLS)
  • Decent standard of living, measured by adjusted annual per capita expenditure

  • The Human Development Index (HDI) of Sidoarjo Regency in 2020 is in the very high category, at 80,29, with details of the Life Expectancy (AHH) at birth reaching 74,04 years; the average length of schooling is 10,50 years; long school expectations 14,93 years; and adjusted annual per capita expenditure of 14.458.000.
