Hanifah started by explaining the concepts of mean, median, and mode as important first steps in understanding data distribution. He also shared his experience in applying this concept in various studies involving large data, emphasizing the importance of accuracy and consistency in statistical data processing. On the other hand, Yongky Choirul Anam added an explanation about techniques for applying statistics in machine performance analysis, showing how accurate concentration data can be the basis for decisions in machine efficiency and productivity.
These face-to-face lectures provide a different experience for students. Most students stated that the practical approach of the guest lecturers made it very easy for them to understand the material. Not a few people felt the benefits of the explanations given by Hanifah and Yongky, considering that both of them are practitioners who deal with data and analysis in the field every day.
“It feels very different when hearing from those who are directly involved in this field. "Their experience adds to our insight into the importance of statistics in the engineering field," said one of the Mechanical Engineering students who was also present.
This activity is not just a lecture, but is also part of Potik UMSIDA's commitment to broadening statistical knowledge among students. The UMSIDA Statistics Corner itself is in the same area as Campus 2, making it a very close and easily accessible facility for students who want to study or deepen their insight into statistics. Potik UMSIDA recently also won an award as one of the top three best Potik in East Java, thanks to its performance which was considered very high in supporting data and statistics literacy among academics and the public.
The collaboration between the UMSIDA Statistics Corner and the ASN Mengajar program shows that Potik not only acts as a center for statistical literacy on campus, but also as a bridge between higher education and the professional world. "We hope that in the future more students will be able to understand, use, and even develop statistical methods that are relevant for their respective fields," said Dr. Suprianto, lecturer in Statistics courses at UMSIDA.
With this activity, students have a more real picture of how statistics can be applied in the industrial field, especially in Mechanical Engineering, and they are better prepared to utilize the statistical knowledge they learn for future professional challenges.
