Visitation by BPS RI: Umsida Statistics Corner Shows Rapid Development

Universitas Muhammadiyah Sidoarjo (Umsida) has demonstrated its commitment to developing its Statistics Corner. The Statistics Corner program, initiated in collaboration with the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) of Sidoarjo Regency, received high praise from the BPS Republic of Indonesia (RI) Statistics Corner Team. This was revealed during a visitation conducted on September 5, 2024, in the FST meeting room, GKB 4, Campus 2 Umsida.

During their visit to Umsida Campus, the BPS RI Statistics Corner Team conducted an evaluation and monitoring of the 2024 Statistics Corner work program. The team, led by Stefanie Intan Christienova, SST, M.Stat, provided positive feedback on the performance of Umsida's Statistics Corner.

"Umsida is a newcomer with quite high enthusiasm," said Nova in her remarks. She appreciated various activities and innovations carried out by Umsida's Statistics Corner, including interesting infographic and videographic publications.

In line with Nova, the Head of BPS Sidoarjo Regency, Mohamad Isma'il, S.Si., M.Ec.Dev, also gave praise. He highlighted the strengths of Umsida's Statistics Corner in terms of statistical education involving students as active statistical agents.

"Umsida’s Potik (Statistics Corner) excels in educational topics handed over to statistical agents and collaborates with other BPS activities, such as Desa Cantik (Statistical Village)," said Isma'il.

Umsida’s Statistics Corner: A Bridge Between Academics and the Community

Dr. Suprianto, the Head of Umsida's Statistics Corner, in his presentation explained the various activities that had been conducted. These included statistical outreach, the development of Umsida's Statistics Corner, the various activities carried out, as well as the available accessibility including location, space, and facilities, and collaboration with Desa Cantik BPS Sidoarjo Regency, up to the plans for mentoring UMKMs based on statistical data.

"Umsida's Statistics Corner aims to be a bridge between statistical service providers and the community," said Suprianto. He hopes that the Statistics Corner can provide broader benefits, especially for the community in need of statistical data for various purposes.

Appreciation from Campus Leaders

Dr. Heri Widodo, M.Si., Ak., CA, Vice Rector II of Umsida, in his remarks expressed appreciation for the cooperation that had been established between Umsida and BPS. He hopes that the Statistics Corner can continue to grow and make a greater contribution to society.

"I have more respect for this Statistics Corner collaboration because its work program is more organized," said Heri. He also suggested that the mentoring of the Statistics Corner should not only focus on the Faculty of Science and Technology but should also involve other faculties.

Future Hopes

This visitation is expected to be a momentum for Umsida's Statistics Corner to continue innovating and improving the quality of services. The BPS RI Statistics Corner Team provided several suggestions and recommendations that will serve as evaluation materials for future program development.

 "My hope is that Umsida's Statistics Corner can increase awareness, publicize activities, and disseminate statistical knowledge from BPS to the community," said Nova.

The visit of the BPS RI Statistics Corner Assessment Team to Umsida serves as concrete evidence of the success of the Statistics Corner program initiated with BPS Sidoarjo Regency. With various activities and innovations carried out, Umsida's Statistics Corner has succeeded in becoming an active center for statistical learning and development in East Java. It is hoped that Umsida's Statistics Corner will continue to grow and contribute more to society.
